Description
Many oil & gas structures in the offshore areas of Vietnam now are at the end of their service lives and need to be decommisioned. It is, obviously, very expensive and takes a lot of time, along with a lot of environmental issues to dispose these structures. On the other side, there is a great potential to reuse them as wind turbine foundations. In order to do that, careful assessment on existing structures is necessary to make the aged oil & gas structures fulfil with the new tasks. This paper focuses on analyzing and comparing the working conditions, safety requirements of relevant codes and standard for converting from oil & gas structures to wind turbine support structures and establishing methodologies to evaluate safety of aged oil & gas structures as wind turbine support structures with different working conditions and safety requirements. A case study is conducted for reusing lightweight oil & gas structure to make a 10MW wind turbine supporting foundation.
Key words: offshore structure, reuse, offshore wind turbine foundation, safety.
