Description

MRFs (Magneto-rheological fluids) are special fluids made up of magnetic particles contained in a base fluid that have intelligent characteristics. With the exception of when a magnetic field is applied, these fluids behave like non-Newtonian fluids. Strong particle chains created by the magnetic field obstruct fluid movement. A modified version of foam extend is used to model the impact of non-linear magnetic fields based on the extended discrete element method (XDEM) for magnetic particles in a base fluid which is simulated using immersed boundary method based computational fluid dynamics (CFD) code. The CFD and XDEM are coupled two way where the particle information from XDEM is shared with the fluid part and the drag force from CFD is shared with the XDEM part. This foam expand version is coupled with XDEM to examine MRFs with polydispersed particles. Before being examined in one or more directions while exposed to a magnetic field, ferro magnetic particles of various sizes and magnetic properties are first dispersed freely.
