Description

The municipality of Oslo has a clear objective that all schools in Oslo operate from the same foundation of knowledge and share a common understanding of how to create positive school environments. This symposium illustrates how we transition from a shared foundation of knowledge and mandated frameworks, through common values and attitudes, to practical structures and work processes in the schools.
It includes these presentatons:
1. Community-Oriented Perspective on Bullying, The education Act and the LK20 core curriculum as foundational elements.
2. Perspectives on Students and Learning
3. School’s Plan for a Safe and Positive Environment
4. District level as a support system
5. School Contributions

Holistic Work with School Environment from a District Level’s Perspective
The municipality of Oslo has a clear objective that all schools in Oslo operate from the same foundation of knowledge and share a common understanding of how to create positive school environments. This symposium illustrates how we transition from a shared foundation of knowledge and mandated frameworks, through common values and attitudes, to practical structures and work processes in the schools.

Community-Oriented Perspective on Bullying, The education Act and the LK20 core curriculum as foundational elements.
Oslo’s support systems are based on a community-oriented perspective on bullying, in conjunction with the Education Act and core curriculum. This is crucial for safeguarding both shared values and individual rights

Perspectives on Students and Learning
A positive view of students is a cornerstone of the pedagogical work. We build upon a sociocultural perspective of learning, which means we regard students as positive contributors to their own and others’ learning, as well as to the school environment. We believe that new knowledge and understanding develops through interaction and dialogue within a social community.

School’s Plan for a Safe and Positive Environment
Oslo’s schools are currently revising their plans for a safe and positive school environment, and the district level has created a new framework for this plan. We offer workshops where schools can develop their plans with support from the district level.

District level as a support system
Schools can report their needs to the district level, who can provide both immediate assistance and contribute to long-term development processes. This approach alleviates the burden on schools and helps develop local sustainable capacity.

School Contributions
This section includes contributions from schools that utilize the district level’s support systems and their experiences with these resources.
