Bullying victimization is common childhood experience that causes profound harm to young people. Although bullying interferes with all aspects of functioning, it has a notable negative impact on mental health. In fact, longitudinal studies point to a causal relation between exposure to bullying and subsequent adjustment problems.
In this keynote address, the neurobiology of bullying victimization will be examined, with a specific focus on how exposure to bullying gets under the skin to confer a risk for mental health problems in children and adolescents.
